Individual & Systems Advocacy Certification Training

Summer 2017 Session


FOCUS: This training provides an excellent education for community activists or those looking for additional skills necessary to work in the field of disability services, advocacy, community organizing, the legislative process, or civil rights law. 


WHEN:     Tuesdays, June 13, 2017, through August 8, 2017 (no class on July 4th)

10:15 AM-2:15 PM (A light lunch will be provided)

An on-line option is also available:

 Elearning alternative: 

  • Complete the weekly learning modules any time during the same week as the scheduled in-person classes. You set your schedule
  • Interact with your fellow on-line students through a weekly conference call  (held at a mutually agreed upon time)
  • Participate in the Colorado Capitol site visit or complete an approved alternative

  • The History of CCDC and our Advocacy Team
  • Understanding Advocacy 
  • Ethics and Principles of Being an Advocate
  • Understanding the Local, State, and Federal Benefit Systems
  • Social Security (SSI and SSDI) Disability Eligibility, Application, and Determination
  • Medicaid – Disability Eligibility & Determination
  • Benefits: Due Process and a How to Appeal a Decision
  • Legislative Advocacy
  • Community Advocacy
  • Understanding Reasonable Accommodations
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) 



Affiliate or Organization:

  • $500 per applicant, $250 for each additional applicant from the same organization

Individuals or CCDC Members:

  • $500 (There are scholarships available for CCDC members in exchange for 120 hours of volunteer time with our CCDC Advocacy Team)



Enrolled students may apply for 3 Continuing Education Units from DU

    • DU credit is optional
    • Requires a separate application and fee ($25 per credit/$75 total)
    • Completed application and fee are due before the first week of class
    • The student must satisfy all graduation requirements 

Graduation Requirements:

  • Weekly attendance or completion of on-line module
  • Completion of weekly homework assignments
  • Passing quiz and final exam grades
  • Attendance at an approved site visit



Registration deadline is Friday, June 2, 2017.

To register for the upcoming Summer 2017 Session:

  • Download and save a copy of the application form located at the bottom of this page
  • Save a copy of the form before completing the information.  If you don't save it first - your information will be lost and you will have to do it again.
  • Upon receipt of registration, CCDC will contact you with information about registration fees, class details, etc.

If you would like to apply for a CCDC Scholarship:

  • Download and save a copy of the scholarship form located at the bottom of this page
  • Save a copy of the form before completing the information.  If you don't save it first - your information will be lost and you will have to do it again.
  • Upon receipt of the scholarship application, CCDC will review the information and contact you about the next steps.


    • Acceptance and willingness to undergo a criminal background check will be required to volunteer with the CCDC Advocacy Team
    • Cancellation before the start of session is subject to a $25 fee
    • Refunds, after the session begins, are calculated on a pro-rated basis
    • CCDC is unable to provide reimbursement for mileage, hotel accommodations, long distance charges, food, etc. for anyone attending the training
