Disability Community Meeting with Dr. Larry Wolk of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE)
01/31/2014 - 9:30am - 11:30am
Nothing About Us, Without Us.
When: January 31, 2014 --9:30 -11:30 am
Where: Atlantis Community 201 South Cherokee Street Denver, CO (Accessible by bus 52, and close to 3, 0 and Alameda Station light rail)
Who: Anyone from the disability community
Why: An opportunity to get to know new CDPHE Executive Director Dr. Larry Wolk and for him to get to know us.
CDPHE has several divisions that affect our daily lives including Health Facilities and Emergency Medical Services (HFEMSD) and the Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR). Dr. Wolk and representatives from the two divisions Randy Kuykendall (representing HFEMSD) and Lyle Moore (representing EPR) are seeking our input on which regulations are and aren’t working for us. We will have the chance to discuss where there are problems and if the state has the power to make changes to the regulations.
HFEMSD licenses health facilities in Colorado including hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities, as well as in-home support services agencies, group homes, and home health. Additionally, HFEMSD is the state agency designated by CMS to certify facilities for Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement.
EPR coordinates and provides resources to local agencies to prepare for and respond to disasters including fires, floods, flu outbreaks, and more. EPR has been proactive in working with the disability community in the past.
We will not be discussing marijuana issues on the 31st. If there is desire and interest, we will set another meeting to discuss medical marijuana issues after we know how legalization will affect the medical marijuana program.
