CCDC Training Opportunity -- American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) Advocacy for Disability Related Accommodations in the Courts
CCDC, in conjunction with The State of Colorado Court Administrators Office will be providing an incredible training opportunity. This is an opportunity for disability rights advocates in Colorado to get a glimpse of what happens in the county and district courts and how we can work with courtroom staff and ADA Coordinators to advocate within the system as non-attorney advocates. The role of a court based non-attorney advocate would be to work with the judicial branch ADA coordinators to assist people with obtaining disability related accommodations when necessary for equal access to justice. CCDC is setting up a small pilot program whereby a few advocates will be selected to engage court-based non-attorney advocacy. Advocates that want to be considered for participation in this program must attend this training. CCDC is also opening this up for advocates from other disability organizations that either currently assist people in court OR who want consider doing this type of advocacy.
This will be a ½ day training instructed by court staff and a good opportunity to learn more about the justice system and how individuals with disabilities will be afforded disability accommodations
