Spring 2016 Training Opportunity Announcement
Advocacy Training – Disability
Benefits and Healthcare

Colorado Cross-Disability Coalition (CCDC) and the University of Denver are
excited to offer a training and certification in Individual and Systems
Advocacy Certification Training.

The class includes 8 (3 hr.) sessions -Tuesdays – Feb 2 –April 5, 2016- 10:15AM-1:15PM

Focus will be on the following topics

  • CCDC History, What about CCDC and General Advocacy
  • Advocates navigating Local, State, and Federal Benefit Systems
  • Disability Determination-Social Security (SSI and SSDI)
  • Medicaid – Disability Eligibility & Determination - The Affordable Care Act and Health Equity
  • Due Process and the Appeals Process for Benefits
  • Community and Grass Roots Organizing, Nonprofit and Regulatory Boards, The Legislative Process, and Rule Application
  • Education, Employment, Housing, Transportation, and Technology
  • Effective Communication, Requesting Reasonable Accommodation (ADA) 

When: Training will be conducted every Tuesday morning 10:15 AM-1:15PM (3 hrs) Feb 2, 2016 – April 5, 2016 – includes graduation the last week.

Location: The University of Denver, University Hall- Rm. #304, 2197 S. University Blvd. Denver Colorado. This training is a great education for
community activists or for those looking for additional skills necessary to work in the field of disability services, advocacy, community organizing,
the legislative process, or civil rights law.

CCDC Diploma

Disability Advocacy Training - General – Attendance at all 8 sessions, pass/fail exam, and a attendance at an approved site visit will qualify students to earn a CCDC Diploma.

Cost of Class:

Free to CCDC members committed to the CCDC Volunteer Advocacy Team- To qualify for free registration for the class, all CCDC members are required to commit to 120 hrs of volunteer time, if  members receive confirmation of registration and are a “no show, no call” 24 hrs prior to class, registrants will be charged a $15 seating fee.

Affiliate organizations: $500 1st registrant, $250 for additional registrants with same organization.  CCDC Diploma - no charge


CCDC/DU Disability Advocacy Certification

Basic 8 weeks course: $75, 3 DU CEU’s (Continuing Education Credits), 27 contract hours, weekly/final quiz, attendance at an approved site visit.  

Please Note: A pre registration interview is required for the class.
Acceptance and willingness to undergo a criminal background check will be required to volunteer with the CCDC Advocacy Team.  Having a criminal background does NOT generally disqualify you as a volunteer.

The Basic Advocacy Class is limited to the first 15 registrants
