Advanced Advocacy Training – Effective Communication with Disability/Healthcare Professionals

This training provides an advanced education opportunity for community activists or for those looking for additional skills necessary to work in the field of disability services, advocacy, community organizing, the legislative process, and civil rights law. Impact is cross disability and  intergenerational.

 

CLASS FOCUS:

 

  •          Intersection of the Affordable Health Care Act and the American’s with Disabilities Act:  Medicaid and Long Term Care:  What changes are on the horizon?  What do advocates need to know to address needs of clients with a Cross Disability/Intergenerational impact?  What is happening today?
  •         Effective communication – A template for advocates to use to assist patients to be more prepared for appointments enabling them to have more effective communication with their doctors. A New CCDC Initiative!
  •           Educating Physicians and other Healthcare Professionals to understand disability, ultimately improving communication and access:   Introduction to a New CCDC Initiative!
  •          Reasonable Accommodation Requests in the Healthcare Arena—Practical tips for requesting and receiving reasonable accommodations and modifications of policy, practice and procedure.
  •          Grievances and/or Complaints – Where to go when you have problems with quality of care or other concerns about medical providers.   Understanding the roles of various agencies including DORA, OCR, CDPHE and others.

Pre Requisite: Applicants must hold the CCDC Introduction to Disability Advocacy Diploma or have equitable training and /or experience.

 

Registration Cost

 

Affiliate/organization cost - $150 per applicant (second applicant from same organization $75)

 

Non-Member Professionals - not Affiliated $225

 

CCDC Members – Meet pre requisite requirement and commit to the CCDC Volunteer/Advocacy Team (10 hours in the next 6 months)  No Charge, however, regrets must be emailed 24hrs. prior to class date and no show/no calls will be invoiced a $15 seating fee.

 

Certification
CCDC Certificate of Completion – No cost

CCDC DU (CEU’s) Continuing Education Units = 1 credit $25 (Registration information must be submitted to shutter@ccdconline.org by registration deadline – November 8, 2015

Please Note: CCDC cannot provide travel, rooms, support services, or expense reimbursement for class attendees from outside the metro area, however, remote access through Skype and teleconference is available for out of area registrants – It should be noted that joining through the teleconference line is a long distance call and charges to the caller.
