Access & Functional Needs Commitee - Red Cross: Disaster Services Lunch and Learn
09/22/2015 - 11:30am - 1:00pm
19% of the population – approximately 56.7 million noninstitutionalized people – have some type of disability. More than 12.6%, or 38.3 million people, have a severe disability. Individuals requiring Functional and Access Needs Support Services may have physical, sensory, mental health, cognitive, and intellectual needs (also known as Access and Functional Needs, or AFN) that affect their ability to function independently, especially in the aftermath of disasters. And there are others that may benefit from FNSS include women in late stages of pregnancy, elders, and people needing bariatric equipment.
Join Gil an Shirl Garcia as they facilitate a robust discussion on Standards of Compliance, WHY Red Cross and other mass care providers should comply, case studies from across the nation, and how the whole community can plan for and provide disaster relief services to people with access and functional needs.
