Castle Rock Police Department
Issues
Two deaf individuals alleged that the Castle Rock Police Department refused to provide them with qualified sign language interpreters.
Status
Without filing a lawsuit, the CCDC Legal Program and the two deaf individuals were able to reach an agreement with the Castle Rock Police Department that requires them to implement and enforce a policy to provide qualified sign language interpreters consistent with Title II of the ADA and the United States Department of Justice guidelines and standards with respect to the provision of interpreters by law enforcement agencies and to provide training regarding its interpreter policies to its law enforcement officers. The settlement agreement is posted here.
