Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) is low-cost health insurance for Colorado's uninsured children and pregnant women. CHP+ is public health insurance for children and pregnant women who earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, but cannot afford private health insurance.

Who is eligible?
- Children age 18 and under and pregnant women age 19 and over
- Applicants with houshold income under 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL).Click here to see if your income qualifies for CHP+
- Colorado Residents
- Permanent legal residents who have had an Alien Registration number for at least 5 years, a refugee or asylee
- Applicants not eligible for Medicaid. Click here to find out more about Medicaid
- Applicants who do not have other health insurance
Who is not eligible?
- Applicants who have been covered by an employer health insurance plan during the last 3 months where the employer paid 50% or more of the premium cost
- Applicants who are eligible for state employees’ health coverage
- Residents of correctional or mental institutions
How do I apply?
You need to complete an application and provide some documentation so we can see if your children qualify

How much does CHP+ cost?
For most families CHP+ is free. Depending on your monthly income, you may have to pay a small enrollment fee and small co-payments when you receive services and prescriptions. Click here to learn more about the enrollment fee and co-payments.
When will my child’s coverage begin?
If you or your child qualifies for CHP+, coverage will begin on the date your application was received at the CHP+ office, a CBO Site, or at a county office. Once you or your child is approved, you will receive information in the mail including a membership handbook and membership card.
What services are covered?
Here are just a few of the health services CHP+ covers:
- Regular checkups
- Immunizations (shots)
- Prescriptions (medicine)
- Hospital services
- Eye glasses
- Hearing aids
Dental care (for children) services, up to $600 per year, covers:
- Exams and cleanings
- Fillings
- Routine extractions
- Some root canal therapies
Which doctors can my child visit?
CHP+ works with Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) to provide medical care. Each HMO has their own network of doctors that your child can see on CHP+. The county you live in will determine which HMO your child enrolls with. If more than one HMO is available in your county, you must select an HMO. Click here for more information about HMOs.

CHP+ dental services are provided by Delta Dental of Colorado dentists. To find a dentist in your area, click here.
What if I need immediate care?
You may qualify for a program called Presumptive Eligibility (PE). PE is a way for children and pregnant women to receive care right away without having to wait to see if you are eligible. To apply, you must visit a PE Site and they will do a quick review. If found eligible you will get enrolled for up to 60 days while you wait to see if you qualify.
